degrees above much -- around much of the area. look at these temperatures. dulles 100. 105 current temperature for reagan national airport. look at the heat index. it feels like upward of 110 and winchester. we do have the excess of heed warnings that remain in effect for the district and surrounding counties. our focus moves toward the chance for some thunderstorms as we move toward the late over nine hours. we will see a few that may pop up across the northern part of our area. a much different story for tomorrow afternoon. the overnight hours of tomorrow night into early monday morning, could be looking at gusty winds,

severe thunderstorms. a full forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> it has been a tough week for many who have had to work outside. that includes workers trying to get the water back on for customers in northwest. >> it has been a brutally hot day both here in arlington and across the d.c. region. i feel like i am reading and warm air right now. today we found an especially difficult time in one d.c. neighborhood. under a scorching sun, the boggling and cracked 24th block is a waterless hot zone. >> to o'clock this morning we had no water. >> outside laborers are in the heat. >> we have a lot of water. >> they tried to fix a water

neighborhood. blacks metro trains are running slower than usual today. -- >> trains are running slower than usual today. a bend in the rail as you can see from severe heat caused three cars to derail a near the west hyattsville station. nobody was hurt. all above ground trains are running under 35 miles per hour because of yesterday's's incident. free shuttle buses are available there. extreme heat like we are having right now can cause pavement to crack or buckle. drivers, especially motorcyclists, should keep a careful eye out on the road. crews are on special alert for emergency repairs. there has already been minor buckling along interstate 95.

power. in montgomery county, a neighborhood still in the dark eight days after the storm. how the residents have been coping. >> they are hot and they are upset. those numbers we are hearing from the utility companies continue to rise by the hour. pepco says those numbers are heat related outages and only about 100 are still without power because of last friday's storm. crews continue to work around the clock to restore power. residents are angry. >> we are so angry about it. we see people around us in this community and they have their power. >>pepco is always asking for money for something. ok. why can you not do the job you are supposed to be doing. >> these residents have gone

eight long days without power and they are not happy with pepco. >> my dad spends so much money for the gas and oil for the generator. about $50 a day. >> home owners say their power has gone off and on three times. >> it was gone again this morning. >> pep co is encouraging customers to report their status throughout the day. many residents say they need a better system. >> will begin on the phone these people do not have the correct information on their computer to send the dispatchers. >> residents still without power, some of them are responsible for their own repairs. that is the situation here on the 2400 block of rich place. >> i am not an animal. i need to survive. my mother is staying in the house. >> he is having a hard time tracking down any by attrition. contractors continue working 16 hour days, many which they could

>> a propane and grill is what caused the fire at a woodbridge apartment complex earlier this week. the grill was on an apartment on the third floor. 100 people had to evacuate because of the fire. three firefighters were taken to the hospital for injuries but none of the residents were hurt. the fire also spread to a nearby building. both have been condemned it. tommy wells appears to be throwing his hat in the ring for mayor. he is already organizing a campaign staff for the election. he decided to run after an outpouring of support from people all across the city. a new database and prince george's county as people see who has been convicted of gun

crime. they passed the law last month allowing police to operate the registry. it will provide names and addresses of gun offenders in the county. taking a look at some news from around the world tonight. in the black sea region, more than 100 people have died because of flooding. vladimir putin is in the region to take a look at the desk -- destruction. many traffic lights were ripped out from the force of the flood water. it is being called the worst disaster to hit the region in decades. the united states has designated afghanistan as a major non nato ally. hillary clinton made the announcement in a surprise visit to kabul today. afghanistan will still be

to said back in 2010. temperatures across the board above the 100 degree mark for the third day in a row. now 102 at the airport. the heat index at 104 degrees. 100 degrees at dulles international airport. woodbridge, 104. arlington made it up to 103 degrees. bethesda is 103 degrees. it feels like 102 in the northeast d.c. temperatures are slowly starting to cool. we do have the excessive heat warning in effect for d.c. surrounding counties. this is until 10:00 tonight. we are not the only ones dealing with the heat. chicago and detroit also under the excess of heat warning.

charleston at 99. indianapolis at 104 degrees. satellite and radar, we do have thunderstorms developing across central pennsylvania. these thunderstorms are beginning to move towards the south. you can see a newly updated thunderstorm watch that does include frederick county md. to washington county. this is as we move through the early evening hours. the storms are widely spread right now. clusters are beginning to form. these will start to fizzle out as we move through the overnight. this is where the watch is right now. futurecast looks like this as we move through the over nine hours into tomorrow. widespread showers, possibly severe showers into the evening and overnight hours. our forecast overnight is 76-84.
